As children transition into their youth, they may be challenged in expressing their feelings. Art has the power in reducing stress and empowering youth to manage their emotions, build resiliency and reinforce self-esteem. Participants will be encouraged and supported to safely express their feelings when creating their projects. All sessions will be the same, please choose one that works best for you.

Vision Board Workshop

A vision board is a great tool to help bring clarity and focus about your hopes, dreams and visions through creation of tangible reminders of what you are seeking. This is an interactive session that supports you in the creation of a personalized vision board.  Please bring along a picture of yourself and any other pictures or items related to what you would like to accomplish over the next year.

Identifying and expressing feelings in a positive way can be challenging for some children. Developing skills to manage their feelings effectively in childhood can lead to positive attitudes and behaviours later in life. Each Jr. Emotion Kit will include social-emotional skills, self-care information and fun activities. Youth Council 
Ages 12-17
Cold Lake Youth Council is a youth-led, volunteer-based group, focused on social and civic advocacy, that acts as a voice for the young people of Cold Lake and as peer advocates. They promote youth activism and civic engagement. Members develop communication and leadership skills while supporting their community and making new friends. Book of Love

Celebrate the day of love with a special take-home kit.  Each kit contains a journal to build positive affirmations, self-care items and a special treat to enjoy.  It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority - it’s necessary.

Transition to Teenhood

This program is best suited for preteens age 10-12; it will focus on dealing with the feelings and challenges that come with transitioning to teenhood. The goal of this program is to help youth cope with powerful emotions that come with physical and emotional development and to provide them with useful relationship skills as they continue to grow and mature. Home Alone: the Grub Club Edition  
Ages 9-13
Children need to feel comfortable, safe and equipped to stay home alone. Guardians will also be equipped with the knowledge and resources to help the children in their care to feel safe, responsible and empowered while at home. This edition will include a light meal prepared by the youth, as they learn to put into practice the safe snacking techniques they received while participating in the session. The Parent/Caregiver portion will be completed virtually in advance with the facilitator.

Building Rainbow Qmunity (Including Allies) 
Ages 11-14
Join us for two mornings of activities and conversation. This two-day session will equip participants with knowledge on terminology respective to the 2SLGBTQ+ community, provide resources and support as well as begin to create a network of supportive, like-minded youth. A healthy, allergy-conscious snack will be provided both days. Participants are required to attend both days to receive a certificate.

Everyone has the right to a healthy, safe, and respectful relationship, and the right to help create a world without violence. “What to do When...” Series

These sessions are based on the “What to do When...” series of youth workbooks. They are designed to introduce and exercise practical and healthy coping strategies for a variety of situations and challenges.  
Session One - When Tempers Flare, a Kid’s Guide to Overcoming Problems with Anger
Do you ever feel angry for no reason?  Do you have a hard time calming down after getting into a fight with your brother, sister or friend? This interactive course will help you identify some causes of frustration and provide you with some helpful tips on how to calm yourself and manage the emotion of anger, constructively!

Adulting 101
Ages 14 and over
This program helps youth prepare for life after high school by empowering them with practical knowledge and skills.  They will learn about renters’ and workers’ rights and how to eat healthy on a small budget. They will leave with a toolbox filled with valuable information to be able to advocate for themselves with confidence.

Home Alone  
Ages 9-13
Children need to feel comfortable, safe, and confident to stay home alone. Guardians will be equipped with the knowledge and resources to help the children in their care to feel safe, responsible, and empowered during brief periods of supervising themselves. A 30-minute, virtual parent/caregiver portion is required. Your facilitator will be in contact to arrange times that are agreeable to both.

Intro to Indigenous Beadwork for Youth   
Ages 14-17
Join us for an afternoon of learning how to bead and gain insight into the history behind the craft that represents a culture rich in symbolism and tradition. Beadwork is more than just colourful and visually appealing designs to the Indigenous people, but it is medicine. This workshop will bring opportunity to engage with peers, self-growth, and sense of community. In partnership with Native Counselling Services of Alberta.
