Youth Literacy and Numeracy Volunteer Mentors 
Ages 12 and older
FCSS is recruiting youth mentors ages 12 and older to volunteer with our literacy and numeracy enrichment programs, “Word Wizards and Mathemagicians”.  Volunteers will be committing to two hours of volunteering for thirteen weeks, beginning with training on Tuesday, February, 3, 2022. Volunteers will be screened for suitability. Mentors will be playing literacy and numeracy-themed games with children in grades one to four.  Mentors will be under the guidance and support of FCSS staff. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for youth who enjoy working with children and are looking for an opportunity to develop leadership, inter-personal and organizational skills.
Date: Thursdays, February 3, 10, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, April 7, 14, 28, May 5 and 12, 2022
Time:  4:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

Mighty Mentors   
Ages 14-18
FCSS is seeking youth ages 14 to 18 to be mentors for elementary students in grades 3 and 4 in local schools.  Mentors and mentees meet over a lunch period once a week during the school year.  Mentors and mentees spend the time together engaged in positive activities such as reading, playing board games or simple sporting activities. FCSS staff will be on-site for supervision and guidance of the mentors. The program is available through school reference and availability of mentors. To apply as a youth mentor, please contact Cold Lake and District FCSS.  Parents can contact FCSS for a list of participating schools.

Volunteer Training for Community Partner Organizations – Income Tax Intake Support  
Ages 18 and over
Your organization or agency could become a satellite income tax screening partner for clients eligible for free income tax filing. Through FCSS’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, your staff and volunteers can assist eligible clients with collecting the necessary income tax documents and completing the required paperwork needed for our volunteers to file your clients’ income tax returns.  Clients’ income tax paperwork can be dropped off at FCSS by a member of your staff or a volunteer.
